Great day out at the top National winning loft of Les Morris from Scarisbrick, Nr Southport

Quality rather than Quantity

Les holding "Black National" 1st Open National 8,406 birds

Earlier today Monday 10th March my father and I had the great pleasure of visiting the National winning loft of Les Morris from Scarisbrick, Near Southport. It was a real pleasure to meet Les and have a look around the super quality racers and breeders that he houses in his small back garden loft. We hadn’t been there long before we soon realised why Les has already achieved outstanding success at Federation, Combine and National level. There are no secrets here, just quality rather than quantity. Second best is neither sought nor entertained. Reputations are worth nothing, if the birds don’t produce then they have no future at Les’s loft.

The reason for our visit was to collect his last year’s National winner

“Black National” winner of 1st West Sect/zone

1,243 birds entered by 140 lofts.

1st Open MNFC National Carentan

8,406 birds entered by 829 lofts.

This was an outstanding performance when you consider the birds were liberated into an East North East wind and Les fly’s over 115 miles farer than the front lofts. “Black National” is also previous winner of 1st Federation Frome, 1st Federation Wincanton, 3rd Federation Cepstow, 4th Federation Hereford, 4th Federation Monmouth, 8th Federation Carentan, 10th Federation Fougers (Federation birdage to be confirmed) plus club positions. This SUPER cock bird was purchased by Myrtle Lofts earlier in the year but was left with Les so he could breed some direct children from him for his own 2014 young bird program.

“Black National” contains some super Vandenabeele bloodlines from ourselves M & D. Evans at Myrtle Lofts crossed with Vandenabeele bloodlines from Rik Cools of Belgium. In the pedigree you can see many outstanding top performance racers and breeders including the SUPER “De Blauwe Gaby 103” from Koen Minderhoud (who is in the pedigree three times)
“De Blauwe Gaby 103” is winner of

Also in the pedigree of “Black National” you can see the names “De Wittenbuik” B.88.3206112 five times, “De Bijter” B.80.3250688 five times, so It is not surprising that "Black National" is an outstanding performer and already a proven breeder.

Thank you Les to you and your wife for a great day out and for making me and my father very welcome. Also wishing you the best of luck for the 2014 racing season.

Thank you and best regards

Mark
